RTS Award Nomination

Following the success of the summer multimedia, site specific performance in Spottee’s cave in Roker, we have been nominated and shortlisted for the following awards. The Royal Television Society Award 2011 for best Commercial / Promotional Film, The Journal Culture Awards 2011 in the following categories; Arts Council Awards, Best Arts and Business Partnership and Best event in Sunderland. Monkwearmouth Schools Annual Awards evening took place on the evening of Thursday 12th January 2012 in front of an audience of almost 700 people at the magnificent surroundings of the Sunderland Empire Theatre.Parents, families and friends, staff and guests, celebrated the many academic, sporting and personal success and achievements of pupils. Adventures To Come

Debbie Johnson and Laura Swainston have re launched a World Challenge Expedition with year 9 to travel in 2013 after raising 1300 pounds per child. Those involved will go sea kayaking, mountain climbing and river kayaking. In other news, 9 of the Croatian challengers in Year 9 are registered to take part in an abseil from the Middlesborough transporter bridge in March. Monkwearmouth School Goes Solar!

As part on its ongoing environmental work Monkwearmouth School has had some solar panels fitted to the roof of the building and will be installing a display unit in the school so pupils can see how much electricity the panels are generating. Our business manager, Hazel Davison, said the new panels cost about £30,000 to install and will be used as a learning tool for curricumlum work. Congratulations!

Staff and Governors at Monkwearmouth School would like to congratulate our outgoing Year 11 students for a fantastic year of record-breaking GCSE results. Students at the school have obtained the best results in its history with 91% achieving 5 or more A* – C high grade GCSE’s, all of them including a literacy and numeracy qualification. 59% of students have achieved this with full GCSE’s in both English and Mathematics.
