Wearmouth Learning Trust was formed by the Governing Body of Monkwearmouth School, who applied to the Secretary of State for Education to become a Multi Academy Trust, where they could act as a sponsor school for other Academies, aiming to help them improve their standards and performance and to offer a partnership for our primary partner schools. In November 2014, Directors of the Trust welcomed Redby Academy to the Trust as a sponsored Academy. The relationship cemented the existing partnership arrangements and support which had been in place since early 2014.
In addition to the Trust Board, each Academy has its own Local Governing Body or Advisory Body who take a key role in driving forward achievement and progress within each Academy. It is hoped that the Trust will continue to grow with more schools joining us in the future and we welcome either convertor or sponsor academies. The overall purpose of the trust is to strengthen provision across all academies within it. The trust will do this by providing strategic leadership for all academies through its inclusive ethos and vision and providing strong governance and high quality teaching and learning to ensure students are ready to progress to the next stage of their education, employment or training.

Our Trust Vision

Our vision is to create a family of outstanding schools providing a high quality education to improve the life chances of our young people and to support our local communities. All schools within the Trust provide inspirational teaching within a creative curriculum that motivates every child and young person to enjoy their learning and achieve their full potential. We strive to ensure outstanding care, guidance and support within an inclusive, stimulating and supportive community based on mutual respect and trust.

We aim to provide the highest quality personalised learning, support and care, in partnership with parents and carers and the wider community to foster ambition, raise aspirations, ensure the highest achievement and help our students to make a positive contribution to society. The trust will lead and support all schools within the trust in striving for excellence in teaching and learning via a broad and balanced curriculum within a fully inclusive ethos.

Our Trust Ethos

The Trust aims to promote the academic, physical, emotional, cultural, moral, spiritual and social development of all our children and young people. We will do this by:

• Placing the student at the centre of learning, providing challenging experiences, appropriate for their age, ability, interests and needs and developing lively and enquiring minds.
• Enabling all students to achieve their academic potential and gain qualifications appropriate to their skills, talents, academic ability and the changing needs of society and preparing them for the next stage in their learning.
• Building students self-esteem through an understanding and appreciation of their own self-worth, whilst enabling them to respect, appreciate and acknowledge the achievements and aspirations of others.
• Encouraging students to become tolerant, active and positive members of their community, respecting diversity and developing personal, spiritual and moral values.
