Monkwearmouth Academy recognises the importance of Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) in raising the aspirations of students of our students whilst also providing the skills and behaviours needed to pursue a successful career.

Subsequently Monkwearmouth Academy is committed to ensure all registered pupils at the school are provided with independent careers guidance from year 8 to year 11 (Education Act 1997, section 42A). The Academy Trust are therefore committed to:

• Providing a planned programme of activities to which is both impartial and inclusive.
• Working with our partners to provide the most current information relating to CEIAG.
• Ensuring that, wherever possible, student’s progress to an opportunity in further education, or work based learning.
• Supporting disadvantaged students in gaining access to education, training or work
• Iinvolving young people and their parents/carers in decisions relating CEIAG.
• Working towards achieving the ‘Inspiring IAG’ award

The school endeavours to follow the best practice and guidance from the Department for Education and other expert bodies such as Ofsted and the Careers Development Institute (CDI) and published research as it is available.
The Academy is proud of the support provided to ensure the vast majority of our students continue their learning with pots 16 providers. The NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) figures for the last three years have been:
