Cultural Capital

Sorry we’re currently updating this page.
At Monkwearmouth Academy, we believe that our enrichment programme is essential to our students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. We offer a varied and engaging programme of clubs and activities that give our students the opportunity to be challenged and inspired.

Most of the clubs and activities are offered free of charge by our teachers and support staff who give up their own time to lead on things they themselves are extremely passionate about. Some of our clubs and activities do come at a cost where we have sourced instructors who are specialists in their particular field. Where possible we try to reduce the cost of these to give every student the opportunity to take part.

To ensure students have a variety of enrichment opportunities clubs and activities cover:

General Enrichment – These are open to all students and include subject related clubs and community clubs.
Sport Enrichment – These are organised by the PE department that can sometimes also be targeted at squad players only.
Focused Enrichment – Clubs that are targeted for specific groups of students, provide a qualification or that require an application. For example, we run a successful Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.
Wellbeing Enrichment – These are beneficial for the health and wellbeing of our students.

Our core values of Believe, Achieve and Succeed all directly inform and reinforce our intention to create a varied and engaging enrichment offer that allows students to be challenged, inspired and develop their character.
