The IET Faraday Challenge Days 2018/2019

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) has for many years been working to encourage more young people to engage with the STEM agenda and to consider engineering as a possible career path. The IET Faraday Challenge Days are cross-curricular activity days covering Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM). They are held at schools and colleges around the UK and have proved to be enormously popular with students and teachers alike. A regional Faraday Challenge Day was hosted by Belmont Community School, Durham on 10th of January 2019. A total of six local schools were invited to take part. The team from Monkwearmouth Academy comprised of the following six Year 8 students: Jack McRavey Hannah Dorgan, Anthony Collinson, Jenna-Lee Scuffham, Harriet Scott and Nathan Stoker. After an intensive but enjoyable day,the Monkwearmouth team WON the competition! Even more impressive was their score of 83/100, which on the day was the 9th highest score for the whole of the UK. Well done team 3!
